On a sunny and pleasant morning, Mr Model Driver was driving to work on the same highway he always took every day. Out of nowhere, an exotic sports car in red colour appeared and tailgated his car. As was his good habit, Mr Model Driver was driving according to the speed limit, but he was annoyed with the irritable driver behind him. Not only was the reckless driver tailgating Mr Model Driver, the impatient motorist started honking at him. Then with a loud roar of the engine, the driver of the red sports car overtook Mr Model Driver’s car, and cut in sharply right in front of him. With a surge of adrenaline, Mr Model Driver reacted with rage. He kept honking at the red vehicle and pressed hard on the gas pedal so that he could chase after the sports car. With a glance at the rearview mirror, Mr Model Driver spotted the flashing light of a police cruiser which was following behind him. Ops! A momentary lapse of judgement has turned Mr Model Driver into a Mr Road Rage Driver. Here goes his spotless driving record.
His colleagues nicknamed him Mr Model Husband. The reasons are clear and simple because he is well known for his gentleness and love towards his wife and children. However, his reputation was tarnished in just a split second. One day, out of great courage, his wife told Mr Model Husband that she did not love him anymore, and not only that, she had been having an affair with her colleague for several months. Mr Model Husband took the bad news badly. With tears gushing out of his eyes, and with embarrassment, shame and great fury, he gave his wife a hard slap on the face. Because of that, his wife called the police for family violence assistance. Consequently, Mr Model Husband ended up in court and was charged with domestic assault. To cut the story short, a momentary lapse of judgement has turned Mr Model Husband to Mr Wife Abuser, causing the end of his 20 years of marriage.
On a long-haul flight, a young Christian was sitting beside a Japanese gentleman. As a new believer, he was keen on spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ to anyone. He intentionally started a conversation with this gentleman, and he eventually shared his faith in Jesus Christ with him. The sensitive topic of sin was brought up, and the inexperienced believer told the gentleman that Jesus Christ was the Saviour who bore the sins of all human beings. Apparently, the Japanese passenger was offended by this statement, so he politely told the young Christian that he did not need Jesus to bear his sins, and he could bear his sins all by himself. Perhaps, out of a momentary lapse of judgement, this Japanese passenger made such a statement.
As for the following statement, what is your immediate judgement? The Apostle John states very clearly in the Gospel of John, “Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:30–31 ESV) The purpose of his writing is that people might contemplate and perceive the theological significance of Jesus Christ’s miracles. It is plain and clear that Jesus Christ performed many other miraculous signs, but the miracles that the apostle recorded have already provided sufficient grounds for a person to believe in Jesus as the eternal life-giver.
John wants the world to know that Jesus Christ is the Christ or the Messiah. Christ is a transliteration of the Aramaic or Hebrew word meaning “the Anointed One”. In the Old Testament era, only the kings of Israel, the high priests, or individuals set apart for a particular office were anointed.
In Jesus’ days, the term “Son of God” was also a current messianic title. Not only that, this term designates the divine nature of Jesus Christ. In a nutshell, Jesus Christ is God manifested in the flesh. In other words, He is not just a human being but God.
Dear friends, now you have heard of Jesus as God’s Son and the Saviour, but what is your judgement on who He really is?
Brothers and sisters in Christ, we have already come to know and believe Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, but how about our non-believing colleagues, friends and relatives? With a lapse of judgement, in the past we might have missed the opportunity of sharing the Good News with them, but if you have the chance again, grab it!
