A few years ago, while I was working very hard at the office, the alarm company notified me that my front door was opened, so I rushed home to find out the problem. Even from afar I could hear the alarm blaring very loudly. I was sad to see my house had a break-in. Ever since that day, I pay extra attention to alarm calls and household security.
COVID-19 has already triggered a worldwide recession. Global warming has already produced detectable changes in Arctic and alpine tundra ecosystems, and we are witnessing unprecedented changes in our environment. Food shortages, political unrests, wars and famines continue to exist in many parts of the world. Aren’t these alarm signals that require our attention and appropriate response?
In the end times, more and more scoffers mock at and attack the truth of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Jesus talks about the signs of His coming in Matthew 24. Peter reiterates the same theme, and adds to the fact that scoffers of the Truth will appear. All these are alarm signals that we must pay attention to.
Let’s ponder the reminder of Peter.
Ponder
3knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. 4They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” (2 Peter 3:3–4 ESV)
Pose
Let’s pose a question to God. “Dear God, could You give me the wisdom to deal with the scoffers of the Truth?”
Practice
Let’s practice what you learnt. Pray for the wisdom to deal with the scoffers of the Truth.
Proclaim
Let’s proclaim to others about your experiential knowledge. Share your recent encounter with a scoffer of the Truth with another Christian.
