Even to this day, I can still remember my teachers doing their roll call. When he or she called out my name, I would respond in saying, “present”. I might be in class but I could spend the entire lesson daydreaming!
Moses seeks God regularly. Whenever he needs to speak to God, the Lord is always there for him. There’s no need to take a roll call, God is present in Moses’ life all the time.
Let’s ponder Exodus 33:9.

9As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. (Exodus 33:9 NIV)
