People grumble for various reasons. There are many reasons behind complaints, but one of them is discontentment. Human beings are prone to compare themselves with others. When they aren’t satisfied with their own circumstances but think others are much better off than themselves, they will instantly become Mr and Mrs Grumble.
The Israelites were being enslaved in Egypt and they cried out to God for deliverance (Exodus 2:22–23). Although God granted the Israelites the freedom, they were not satisfied with the prized independence that they longed for. Consequently, they turned against God’s appointed leaders (Exodus 16:1–2). Let’s ponder the story.
Ponder
1The whole Israelite community set out from Elim and came to the Desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had come out of Egypt. 2In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. (Exodus 16:1–2 NIV)
