Sabbath is a day of complete rest after six days of labour. As for the Jewish people, it is a symbol of and a time for remembering their distinctive relationship with Yahweh (Exod. 31:13; Ezek. 20:20). Also, as redeemed people (Deut. 5:15), they should gather together to worship God on this special day (Lev. 23:3).
All in all, we need to have physical and spiritual rest every week. Let’s ponder the teaching of the Old Testament.
12Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the stranger may be refreshed. (Exodus 23:12 NKJV)
Let’s pose a question to God. “Although I have enough physical rest, could You teach me how to attain spiritual rest?”
Let’s practice what you learnt. Set aside a day to rest, and also spend time praying and reading the Bible.
Let’s proclaim to others about your experiential knowledge. Share with a Christian the joy of having physical and spiritual rest.
