“You know that we are living in a material world and I am a material girl”. Madonna sang about it in one of her very old songs. Undeniably, we all live in a material world. It’s true we need material necessities to live by daily, but the crux of the matter is what attitude should we have towards it. The Bible doesn’t teach us to reject material things but should be content with the things we have. Let’s ponder the words of Paul.
Ponder
6But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. (1 Timothy 6:6–8 ESV)
Pose
Let’s pose a question to God. “God, can You give me the heart of contentment?”
Practice
Let’s practice what you learnt. Start your new day with a thankful heart. Pray that you would be contented with the things that you have.
Proclaim
Let’s proclaim to others about your experiential knowledge. Share with a friend that you had once struggled with being overly materialistic, but you are content with your current state of life.
