In 2003, SARS rampaged the world. Not only it took many lives but caused serious damages to the world economy. Another surge of a new virus came to the global scene at the end of 2019; within a short period of time, the new respiratory virus, Novel Coronavirus, has raised alarming health concerns. Latest updates about this virus seem unfavorable. We definitely want to protect ourselves from its harm. Most importantly, we want to find a way to suppress its spread and to heal those who are sick.
Hiding place and shield are common images of protection in the Psalms. In this world infested by all sorts of diseases, unforeseeable events and moral corruption, we desperately need God’s protection. Let’s ponder the words of the psalmist (Psalm 119:113-120).
