Most probably, Psalm 126 points to a time of return from the Babylonian Captivity. Verses 4b and 5-6 are two images of renewal. Also, verse 6 speaks of tears of joy. If you understand the Israeli history well enough, the Jews had lost their homeland due to the rebellious acts that they committed against Yahweh. Like a Bible commentator said, “By sowing tears of repentance over sin, the nation reaped the harvest of a joyful return to the land of Israel.” As you can imagine, the homecoming is intertwined with mixed emotions. It’s truly a moment of tears of joy. Let’s ponder God’s Word.
