In times such as ours, we are deeply troubled by the pandemic, the political issues and other major problems around the world; we want to know if there would be better days ahead of us. For this reason, numerous people strongly believe they can predict the future by means of palm reading; and for the same rationale, many folks are obsessed with astrology. The question that we have to ask ourselves is, “Who can unerringly tell the future?” As human beings are finite beings, they don’t have the ability to predict the future. According to my understanding, only God can reveal the future to us, because He is not bound by time and space.
The English word ‘apocalypse’ comes from the first Greek word of the Book of Revelation. Apocalypse is a scary English word which means an event involving destruction or damage on a catastrophic scale. Some people refer to the Book of Revelation as the Apocalypse, because they think it speaks of the complete final destruction of the world. However, the Greek feminine noun simply means to reveal. In the Book of Revelation, the veil that hides the future is lifted! God wants the whole world to know that Jesus Christ is not only the Saviour of humankind, but He is also the Lord and the Judge of the universe. Although human beings cannot foretell the future, we are writing our own history every day, which will determine our future. Eventually, our present will become our past in the future, and on that special day, Jesus Christ will judge our past deeds on earth (Revelation 20:11–12).
