Unusual Holiday Season (i365 Day 364) 2.0

December is a month of festivals and celebrations. As the COVID-19 pandemic is still looming in the background, it’s unwise to host indoor celebrations and attend massive outdoor gatherings. For the benefit of others, we must wear masks and keep the recommended social distancing in public places. Amid the pandemic, we all have to live with an unusual holiday season!

Pentecost (also called the Feast of Weeks or the Feast of Harvest) is one of the three pilgrimage feasts of the Jews (Leviticus 23). As for the pious Jews, it’s a time to celebrate the grain harvest and the renewal of the covenant. Most of the first-generation followers of Jesus Christ were Jews, and they were still enthusiastic in celebrating Jewish feasts. On an unusual day of Pentecost, while they were praying, God’s Spirit descended upon them and they were filled with mighty power! And from that day onwards, they were witnessing for the risen Messiah mightily and fearlessly. They have changed the course of the world!

This holiday season might be unusual, but we can make full use of it to our advantage and to the benefit of others. If you are a Christian, ask God to fill you up with His mighty power so that you can be a better witness for Him. If you are a non-believer, I pray that you would consider the Christian faith and experience God’s life-changing love. Let’s ponder Acts 2.

Ponder

1Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2Suddenly a sound like a violent wind blowing came from heaven and filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3And tongues spreading out like a fire appeared to them and came to rest on each one of them. 4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them. (Acts 2:1–4 NET)

Pose

Let’s pose a question to God. “Dear God, can You fill me up with Your mighty power?”

Practice

Let’s practice what you learnt. Ask God to fill you up with His mighty power.

Proclaim

Let’s proclaim to others about your experiential knowledge. Share with a Christian the spiritual experience that you have in this unusual holiday season.
