Self-assertion could cause a lot of problems. Let me give you an example; you dared to change the work plan without first consulting your superior and your workmates. I think you are looking for troubles!
There is an incident in the Bible that relates to self-assertion. Without first consulting Yahweh and His servant Moses, the Israelites made a golden calf as an object of worship. That’s self-assertion to the fullest extent. The most serious thing is that it’s an act of idolatry.
Let’s ponder the story about the golden calf.
Ponder
1When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.” 2Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” 3So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. 4He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.” (Exodus 32:1–4 NIV)
Pose
Let’s pose a question to God. “Dear God, could You remind me to consult you before making crucial decisions?”
Practice
Let’s practice what you learnt. Pray that you will consult God before making crucial decisions.
Proclaim
Let’s proclaim to others about your experiential knowledge. Share your decision-making process with another believer.
