Rev. Henry Maxwell is the main character of the book “In His steps”. He challenges his church members to not do anything for an entire year without first asking: “What Would Jesus Do?” This is the theme of this novel. Because of these famous four words, uncountable WWJD bracelets and decals appeared in the late 20th century.
What would I do if someone mistreats me for no reason? Would I choose to flee or fight? Understandably, people deal with a similar situation differently, but before we decide how to respond, think of what would Jesus do first. I think this would help us in making a better decision.
Let’s ponder the words of Peter.
Ponder
11Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. 13Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. (1 Peter 2:11–14 NIV)
Pose
Let’s pose a question to God. “Dear Jesus, could You teach me how to slow down and pray to You before making an important decision?”
Practice
Let’s practice what you learnt. Pray for the humility to listen to Jesus Christ.
Proclaim
Let’s proclaim to others about your experiential knowledge. Share your new experience with a new convert.
