What is the chief end of a human being? According to The Westminster Shorter Catechism, the answer is: Man’ s chief end is to glorify God, (1 Cor. 10:31, Rom. 11:36) and to enjoy him forever. (Ps. 73:25–28)
As human beings are God’s glorious creatures (Psalm 100), we should reflect His attributes in our words and works. Most important of all, we should glorify Him in all we do.
The Apostle Paul prayed that the Philippian believers would grow in spiritual maturity, and would glorify God as a result. As God is glorious, for He is the origin of glory, His people should have the determination to glorify Him. Let’s ponder the words of Paul.
Ponder
11May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God. (Philippians 1:11 NLT)
Pose
Let’s pose a question to God. “Could You teach me how to glorify You and enjoy You?”
Practice
Let’s practice what you learnt. Before starting a new day, ask God to give you the determination to glorify Him.
Proclaim
Let’s proclaim to others about your experiential knowledge. Pray for the opportunity to share with a Christian your desire of glorifying God.
