In the ancient world, many people believe kings are descendants of gods. Nebuchadnezzar was the second king of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, who reigned for 43 years (605–562 BC). He is best known for conquering Jerusalem and initiating the Babylonian exile. With the achievements that he has to his name, it is very likely that he sees himself as a god. Humans cannot be gods. If created beings regard themselves as gods, they would experience identity crisis.
Nebuchadnezzar had a strange dream and Daniel acted as the interpreter. The great king finally realised that he was only a human being! Let’s ponder God’s Word.
Ponder
46Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face and paid homage to Daniel, and commanded that an offering and incense be offered up to him. 47The king answered and said to Daniel, “Truly, your God is God of gods and Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this mystery.” (Daniel 2:46–47 ESV)
