Storytelling (i365 Day 349) 2.0

Most children love to hear bedtime stories before going to sleep. Some dull stories would put a child to sleep and an exciting one would keep a kid wide awake. Here’s a tale about storytelling. As a habit, a pastor tucks his little girl in bed, and tells her a bedtime story. On one special evening, after telling her daughter a thrilling story, she sat up in bed, looked at him, and asked, “Daddy, is that a true story or are you preaching?

Jesus Christ often employed storytelling in his preaching. He was the keenest of observers about daily life. His lessons came from farming, weddings, shepherding and banquets. By means of storytelling, He speaks of the truths about redemption, God’s Kingdom and ethical standards. Let’s ponder the conclusion to the parable of the Prodigal Son.

Ponder

31“ ‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ ” (Luke 15:31–32 NIV)

Pose

Let’s pose a question to God. “Dear Jesus, can You give me the wisdom to understand Your parables?”

Practice

Let’s practice what you learnt. Pray for the wisdom to understand the parables of Jesus Christ.

Proclaim

Let’s proclaim to others about your experiential knowledge. Share with a Christian your new understanding of a parable of Jesus Christ.
