Who doesn’t want to be happier? People often think, if they have more money and power, they would be a happier person. Perhaps so! For sure, money can buy you a lot of things, but couldn’t always buy you happiness. Power could give you control over things and people, but couldn’t always guarantee you happiness. Have you ever thought of meekness would contribute to your happiness? Yes, meekness can grant you happiness!
Ever since the late twentieth-century, Western culture does not hold meekness to be a virtue. But, according to the Bible, meekness is a virtue that everyone should strive for. As for Christians, gentleness is part of the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:23). Also, Christians who are meek would not resent adversity because they accept everything as part of God’s wise and loving plan for them. And because of that, the meek are happier people! Jesus came to the world as the meek servant of Yahweh (12:18–20), and we can learn from His example. Let’s ponder Matthew 12:18–20.
Ponder
18“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. 19He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets. 20A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory. (Matthew 12:18–20 NIV)
Pose
Let’s pose a question to God. “Dear Jesus, can You help me to grow in meekness?”
Practice
Let’s practice what you learnt. Pray that you will continue to grow in meekness.
Proclaim
Let’s proclaim to others about your experiential knowledge. Share with a Christian an incident that you found you have grown in meekness.
