Healthy Affection (i365 Day 234) 2.0

The Shema is the most central expression of Judaism (Deuteronomy 6:4–9). Interestingly, it begins with the message of loving God. A law expert went to ask Jesus, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” (Mark 12:28) The Messiah not only quoted the Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4), but He also added the phrase “and with all your mind” to the list of how one should love God. Furthermore, He made a connection between the Shema and the command to “love your neighbor as yourself.” All in all, the love for God and our neighbours are regarded as healthy affection.

Let’s ponder the words of the Shema.

Ponder

4Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. (Deuteronomy 6:4–6 NIV)

Pose

Let’s pose a question to God. “Dear Jesus, could You teach me how to love You and others?”

Practice

Let’s practice what you learnt. Pray that you can love God and others with a willing heart.

Proclaim

Let’s proclaim to others about your experiential knowledge. Share with a family member your recent experience of healthy affection.
