The Shema is the most central expression of Judaism (Deuteronomy 6:4–9). Interestingly, it begins with the message of loving God. A law expert went to ask Jesus, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” (Mark 12:28) The Messiah not only quoted the Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4), but He also added the phrase “and with all your mind” to the list of how one should love God. Furthermore, He made a connection between the Shema and the command to “love your neighbor as yourself.” All in all, the love for God and our neighbours are regarded as healthy affection.
Let’s ponder the words of the Shema.
