Many people like to say: “To forgive is to forget.” There is some truth in it but it isn’t a biblical teaching or biblical truth. When people hurt you badly, you would remember the pain as long as you live. As people grievously hurt you, they would usually leave you a permanent emotional scar.
The Bible speaks of forgiveness and there are many touching stories about it as well. Let’s ponder Genesis 50:15–21.
Ponder
19But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? 20As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. 21So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus, he comforted them and spoke kindly to them. (Genesis 50:19–21 ESV)
